Brief History

About Bro. George Honey

After an extensive career in the civil service and subsequent retirement as the pioneer ED/CEO of Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC). In 2005 Prince George Niyi underwent in consonance with his passion for learning and creativity an extensive 3 months training in the art of bee farming, bee keeping and processing.

Backed with this knowledge he decided to start an apiary in his hometown in Ondo state which started out as just a hobby with some petty sales to family and friends in Akure, Ondo State.

In 2015, the production of honey was scaled up to meet growing interests prompting the establishment of a small scale factory in Oba-ile Akure. The relevant certification for commercial production and sales were equally obtained from the National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC)

BroGeorge Honey is extracted from the honeycomb of the Apis mellifera specie and the natural processing of pressing is applied in the extraction of the honey.

Bro.George Honey is currently packed in 350ml bottles under very strict hygienic factory conditions.

Why Honey?

Honey as a Cough Suppressant

Honey as most have been led to believe is NOT a cure for the common cold. It has however for centuries been used to help alleviate some of the symptoms associated with a common cold. There are many things that cause a sore throat or a cold. These include infections with viruses or bacteria; sinus drainage; cigarette smoking; allergies, among others. Colds, sore-throats caused by bacteria are usually treated with anti-biotics. Always check with a doctor if you have a fever or symptoms persist for more than a few days.

Honey the healthiest sweetener

Honey is considered a healthier alternative to table sugar because of its lower glycaemic index. The Glycemic index which is given to foods, measures how much a given food affects blood-glucose levels. The lower the rating, the slower the absorption and digestion process, which means a more gradual and healthier infusion of sugars into the bloodstream, whereas, a high rating means that blood-glucose levels are increased quickly, and the pancreas is stimulated to release insulin to keep blood-sugar at a constant and safe level, this inhibits the release of growth hormones, which in turn depresses the immune system.

Honey a source for amino acids

Honey as already mentioned contains natural minerals and vitamins which help the metabolizing of undesirable cholesterol and fatty acid on the organs and tissues into the system, hence preventing obesity. Bee products such as honey and royal jelly contain amino acids, and bee pollen is a great source of these acids. But what are amino acids? In simple terms, they are what make up all proteins. Next to water, protein makes up the greatest portion of our body weight, hence amino acids play an important role in our health. Critical to having a healthy body, they build and repair cells and tissue, carry oxygen and are part of the enzyme system.
